NEC welcomed more than 300 patients yearly in 2015, 2016, and 2018 to the center where they got their insulin levels tested and their eyes checked for free. In addition, an awareness campaign on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle since diabetes can cause glaucoma (damaging the optic nerve). Our panelists were a member of “ The International Diabetes Federation ” Dr. Sandid, one of our ophthalmologists Dr. El Hajj and two nutritionists. This campaign was sponsored by “Al Waleed Bin Talal Foundation” and was in collaboration with the “German Medical Center”, “The Lebanese Diabetic Society”, & “ The International Diabetes Federation”.
Another Awareness campaign was held in “The Spot Mall” in 2018, in Saida, and targeted 70 kids and their parents. The aim was to raise awareness by engaging the children on how to make better nutrition choices and how to maintain a healthy vision. We conducted fun games and a Zumba dance class during the campaign.
